Mary Jordan

Hi there! I'm an editorial and content specialist with more than ten years of experience in the media industry.

I’m Mary (she/her).

I am a writer, reader, storyteller, social media expert, journalist and digital content specialist.

I live in the Eora Nation (Sydney). I have a very scratchy dog named Ralph who loves me because I love to cook and I let him eat anything that falls on the floor. I have a daughter, Lyra, and Ralph loves her more because she drops far more than I do.

My husband, Aron, is around too but he’d be embarrassed if I told you he eats off the floor.

I spend a lot of time watching movies and TV shows. Some of my favourites include: Before Sunrise, Infinity Train, The Secret Garden, Dark, Your Name, Back to the Future (Parts I, II and III), Misfits, Funny Face, The Owl House and About Time. Whenever I watch something new, I review it and each year I keep a running thread of all my reviews, so should you be looking for something to watch, here is 2023s.

Experience

I’ve been working in the media industry for more than ten years, with experience at magazines, in national newsrooms and at a global tech company. I’m well-versed in national and global affairs with a focus on current events, copy editing, news gathering and curbing misinformation. I’m particularly passionate about work that is inclusive, diverse and accessible.

For the past five years I was part of Twitter’s Curation team, contextualising the biggest stories unfolding on the platform. Aside from reporting on news events, the Curation team also surfaced fun, entertaining, clickable threads and conversations happening on Twitter. As such I have come to understand the very specific language used by communities online. I was also part of a task force whose focus was curbing misinformation across the platform. Personally, I launched several projects during my time at Twitter to enhance the experience of underserved communities on the platform to make it safer for them to be featured in Moments and for their Tweets to go viral.
